Serena
(originally known as Gm 6495-4). It contains genes from Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera.Mother: Saperavi Severni
Father: Foster's White Seedling x Prachttraube)
During the 'cold war' the breeder Professor V. Kraus (in the former Czechoslovakia) gave some seeds to Professor Helmut Becker (1927-1990) then head of Geisenheim, who realised the significance or this breeding programme because of the high peronospora and winter-frost resistance of the asiatic Vitis amurensis.
Professor Helmut Becker then continued the development of these 'amurensis' Seedling-populations, which he designated 6494, 6495.
A white Piwi/disease-resistant variety.
Year of breeding: 1964, by Vilém Kraus (1924-2103) in Lednice in the former Czechoslovakia.
The rearing and selection of the seedlings was then carried out in Geisenheim (Rheingau) under Dr. Helmut Becker (1927-1990).
