- Vine training - the Vertical system
The following photo shows Vertical (Vertico) training on a
large scale. In practice it is an ideal system on a small scale, for
example in a garden. It is not possible to tension trellis wire enough over a
short distance so a tanalised wood post (8 foot tall, 2" to 3" top
diameter) should be used for each vine. There are considerable benefits of 'warmth' and
'support' from having a wood post to tie each vine to,
instead of the thin steel cane as shown in the photo.
The vines should be planted 5 feet apart. The vines shown are about 5 years old.
I suggest having the lowest spur at least 2 feet above soil level.
